New Resource!
We are thrilled to share a new resource highlighting ways people can support wildlife at home. Artificial light at night (ALAN) has become an increasing problem as development spreads. As we learn more about ALAN, it’s clear that improper nighttime lighting harms both people and wildlife. The good news is that switching to responsible lighting is simple and achievable. This resource highlights a number of creatures that rely on dark skies and how you can help support them.
Resource created in partnership with American Farmland Trust, the Piedmont Environmental Council, Quail Forever, the Shenandoah Valley Conservancy, Dark Skies Piedmont, and Dark Skies Virginia.
Ideas Take Flight: Increasing Bird Populations on Local Farms
Virginia Working Landscapes research on birds and agricultural pest control, led by Research Fellow Allison Huysman, was featured in Middleburg Life Magazine. The story highlights Allison and one of the research properties, Kinloch Farm.
